"Hemby was built for my own mother"

Richard Nordstrom

It all started when my mother's health declined unexpectedly. She'd always managed on her own. Asking for help was difficult for her. It was a big step to admit she could no longer do everything by herself.

My mum was clear: she wanted to stay at home. Home meant the world to her.

As her son, I began helping wherever I could. I sorted her paperwork and researched how to get her affairs in order.

She started to get some home care, but the difficulty with traditional home care was that a different person turned up every time. Mum didn't feel safe having a stranger let themselves in with a key, at ever-changing appointment times. It didn’t give me peace of mind either during my working day.

I then founded Hemby, so my mum could carry on living at home. She was our very first client.

Through Hemby she got a dedicated care assistant — her own helper — who also cleaned the house a couple of times a month. Every visit was scheduled in advance and visible in the app, letting our whole family breathe a little easier.

Today, Hemby has helped over 10,000 clients. We operate across London and employ a large team of assistants and carers who've become like family to the people they look after.'

Through Hemby, I hope as many people as possible can stay at home even when daily life gets harder. And that their loved ones get peace of mind.

“My father gets a weekly visit from a familiar and reliable Hemby Helper who helps with shopping, laundry, or just keeps him company. For me, it’s a huge relief since I’m rarely in his hometown. I also get a weekly update on his well-being, which gives me peace of mind."

Absolutely wonderful service for my parents who are approaching 90 and are still trying to live at home. As a daughter myself, I don't stretch myself in every direction, so this is truly worth its weight in gold for both me and them. The person who helps us is worth 10+.

Yes. We will recommend a suitable helper, but after the introductory visit you are welcome to request a change if needed. We aim to match the person and helper as well as possible, so do let us know if you have any specific preferences.

Our helpers, carers, and cleaners are all carefully selected through a thorough interview and induction process, ensuring they are committed to supporting you in everyday life.

Yes. We assign you your own dedicated helper, who over time becomes a familiar and trusted presence in everyday life. In exceptional circumstances such as illness or holidays, a cover helper will step in.

If your care needs are greater, we can put together a small team of 2–4 helpers — but they will always be the same familiar faces.

As much as you need. The most common arrangement is a 2-hour visit once a week, but we can also help daily if needed.

Almost anything you might need help with at home — from doing the laundry and taking out the bins to helping with the wardrobe. Or running errands at the pharmacy or supermarket. We also provide companionship, a chat over a cup of tea, or help with technology.

We also help with returning home from hospital, carer's respite, and one-off visits. We additionally offer a home cleaning service.

If you're wondering whether we could help you, feel free to get in touch via our website and ask.
